Underwater welding is a very dangerous and lucrative career that many people don’t even know exists. Welding underwater came long after the existence of professional diving and was first invented by a Soviet metallurgist name Konstantin Khrenov in 1932. Konstantin wanted a way to join and cut metal while underwater. His testing and developments would go on to help in WWII with the repair of ships. While the first tests did not turn out great, his work was carried on by Cyril Jensen. Jensen started a US program for underwater welding starting with ships in Pearl Harbor. Now days, underwater welding is used out on oil rigs in the ocean, for jobs in lakes and dams, and so much more!
